The Summer Ends. Everything Starts Again.
The end of the summer holidays can bring mixed emotions. There may be relief that routines are returning, and at the same time a sense of exhaustion that has been building over the previous weeks.
Perhaps you have spent the summer trying to keep everyone happy while juggling work, childcare, holidays, family commitments and the extra costs that seem to come with all of it. Now the school run is about to begin again, work has become busy overnight, and life feels as though it has gone from one demanding season straight into another.
If you are feeling emotionally drained, overwhelmed or simply like you have been running on empty for too long, counselling can offer you the space to pause and make sense of what has been happening.
I provide humanistic counselling in Brighton & Hove for parents who are experiencing stress, burnout or feeling overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life.
Alongside in-person sessions at my Brighton practice, I also offer online counselling across the UK, making support available wherever you are.

Why This Time of Year Can Feel So Difficult
The return to school is often described as a fresh start. In reality, it can feel anything but.
One day you are trying to make the most of the final days of summer. The next, alarm clocks are back on, work has accelerated, calendars are filling up and the mental load begins to grow again. Uniforms, packed lunches, clubs, homework, commuting and household routines all return at once.
If money has been tighter over the holidays, you may also be carrying the financial pressure that often follows summer spending. For many parents, September feels less like a new beginning and more like another list of responsibilities waiting to be managed.
You may find yourself feeling more irritable than usual, struggling to switch off in the evenings or wondering why you feel so tired before autumn has even begun.
None of this necessarily means something is wrong. It may simply be that you have been carrying a great deal for a long time.
What Might Be Going On For You
You may have reached a point where you are functioning well enough on the outside, yet inside everything feels harder than it used to.
Perhaps you find yourself becoming impatient more easily, struggling to concentrate or feeling guilty because you have less energy for the people around you. You may feel like your own needs have gradually disappeared beneath everything that everyone else requires from you.
Sometimes stress does not announce itself dramatically. Instead, it builds slowly until even small tasks begin to feel overwhelming.
You might recognise some of these experiences:
Feeling emotionally or physically exhausted.
Constantly thinking about everything that needs doing.
Feeling guilty whenever you try to make time for yourself.
Finding it difficult to relax, even when you have the chance.
Feeling disconnected from yourself or from the people around you.
Worrying about money, work or whether you are doing enough.
If any of this feels familiar, you do not have to carry it on your own.
How Humanistic Counselling Can Help
My approach is based on the belief that most people do not need someone to tell them how to live their life. More often, they need the time and space to properly explore what has been happening, with someone who is genuinely listening.
Counselling is not about being judged or analysed. It is a conversation where we slow things down enough to understand what has been building beneath the surface.
Together we can explore the pressures you have been carrying, the expectations you place on yourself and how the demands of parenting, work and family life are affecting you.
Often, as things begin to make more sense, people discover they are able to respond differently. They feel clearer, more grounded and better able to recognise what they need, rather than constantly reacting to everything around them.
Counselling can help you:
Understand why you have been feeling overwhelmed.
Explore stress before it develops into burnout.
Make sense of the pressures of balancing work and family life.
Reconnect with your own needs alongside everyone else’s.
Feel more present, calmer and more in control.
There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what to say. We simply begin wherever you are.
In-Person Counselling in Brighton & Online Sessions
I offer counselling in Brighton & Hove, as well as online counselling throughout the UK.
Meeting in person provides a dedicated space away from the demands of everyday life where you can think, reflect and talk openly. Online sessions offer the same supportive environment if you would rather meet from home or are based elsewhere.
Wherever we meet, the aim is the same: to provide a calm, confidential space where you can focus on yourself for a while.
Taking the First Step
As a parent, it is often your needs that are pushed to the bottom of the list.
Counselling gives you permission to spend time focusing on yourself, not because the people around you matter any less, but because your wellbeing matters too.
If the end of the summer holidays has left you feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained or simply in need of somewhere to think, you are welcome to get in touch.
A free 15 minute introductory call gives us the opportunity to talk briefly about what is bringing you to counselling and whether working together feels like the right fit.
